Martini Monday: Beer Floats

The first time I had a Beer float was at Lilly’s Handmade Chocolates in Tremont Ohio. In fact this is a picture of me enjoying one in the store during Beer Week last year (Jan 2011).

That day I had a very yummy espresso porter with chocolate ice cream. Which was… very yummy. Another good combo would be Thirsty Dog’s Raspberry Ale and Lemon Sherbet. I chose an Orange Blossom Cream Ale and Vanilla bean ice cream. They trick to the beer float is to let the ice cream settle and infuse the beer before sucking it up the straw. If you don’t allow the ice cream to settle it just tastes like milky beer. A few minutes and a few stirs is all it  takes.

Beer Floats

What you will need:

Orange Blossom Cream Ale by Buffalo Bill’s Brewery

 Vanilla ice cream

Instructions:

Scoop two (or more it’s really up to you) medium-sized scoops of ice cream into you glass. Fill with beer. It will foam. Allow it to settle before pouring more. Stir a couple of times. Give it a minute or two to settle and then enjoy!
